Residents in Binley Woods, Warwickshire, are being urged to share their views on an upcoming project aimed at improving cycling infrastructure within the village. Warwickshire County Council has revealed plans for a new cycling and walking route, designed to enhance safety and accessibility between the A46 and Oakdale Road.

The proposed scheme involves widening a 250-metre section of existing footway and installing a road hump at a side road junction. These plans expand on recent improvements at the A46 and A428 junction, forming part of a wider strategy to integrate Coventry’s cycling network, including the Binley cycleway.

Throughout this month, residents are invited to provide feedback on the proposed enhancements via online platforms, with submissions accepted until the end of May. Additionally, an interactive session is scheduled at the Broadstreet Rugby Club, offering residents the chance to learn more about the proposals and engage with the project team.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire County Council emphasised the project’s significance in promoting sustainable travel and reducing carbon emissions. “The County Council is dedicated to facilitating sustainable active travel and lowering carbon emissions. Creating safer cycling connections, separated from motor traffic, is vital,” they noted. “This section of the cycle route will offer an alternative to the busy A428 Rugby Road and improve links between Binley Woods and nearby areas.”

To encourage community involvement, residents are encouraged to review the plans and provide feedback through online channels or at the upcoming meetings.

The proposed cycling infrastructure aims to address the rising demand for safer routes for pedestrians and cyclists, particularly in areas with heavy motorised traffic. By widening footways and introducing traffic-calming measures like road humps, the initiative aims to create a safer environment for active travel and improve connections between Binley Woods and neighbouring regions.

Public consultation is crucial in shaping the final outcome of infrastructure projects, ensuring that community needs are considered. The upcoming sessions offer residents an opportunity to express their opinions and contribute insights that will inform the development of the cycling route.

As the consultation period progresses, stakeholders are encouraged to actively participate and influence the future of their community’s transportation infrastructure. Warwickshire County Council aims to create a cycling network that promotes sustainable travel and enhances residents’ quality of life.

In summary, the proposed cycle path project represents a significant step towards promoting active travel and improving safety for cyclists and pedestrians. Through community engagement and feedback, residents have the chance to shape the development of cycling infrastructure in Binley Woods and beyond.
