Impact Laboratories Secures $5 Million to Expand Sustainability Efforts in Laboratories Worldwide

Impact Laboratories, a revolutionary startup dedicated to verifying the environmental credentials of laboratories across the globe, has announced securing nearly $5 million in funding. Based in Spokane, Washington, this innovative company is the commercial arm of the nonprofit organization My Green Lab. Together, they are transforming the way laboratories approach sustainability, setting new standards for reducing environmental impact while maintaining scientific excellence. With this funding, Impact Laboratories aims to expand its reach and continue its mission of creating greener, more sustainable lab practices worldwide.

The Vision Behind My Green Lab and Impact Laboratories

My Green Lab, the nonprofit behind Impact Laboratories, was founded in 2013 by Allison Paradise, a research scientist with a background at prestigious institutions like Harvard University and Leica Microsystems. The organization’s primary goal is to develop and promote international sustainability standards for laboratories, which are often resource-intensive environments. Through My Green Lab, scientists and institutions are equipped with the tools and knowledge to reduce their environmental footprint without compromising on the quality of their research.

Impact Laboratories builds on this mission by offering third-party verification for My Green Lab’s certification programs. This verification process ensures that laboratories meet rigorous sustainability standards, providing them with a badge of honor that recognizes their commitment to the environment. Additionally, Impact Laboratories offers software solutions to help labs achieve and maintain these certifications. The company also supports the use of ACT labels, which evaluate the sustainability of lab chemicals, equipment, and supplies. These labels act as a guide for labs looking to make environmentally responsible purchasing decisions.

Serving Labs Across Industries

Impact Laboratories serves a diverse range of clients, including academic institutions, biotech companies, and pharmaceutical organizations. By helping these labs adopt sustainable practices, the company is not only benefiting the environment but also contributing to cost savings for its clients. Reducing waste, energy consumption, and other inefficiencies can lead to significant financial benefits, making sustainability a win-win for both the planet and the bottom line.

The startup is already making waves globally, working with over 40 major research institutes across four dozen countries. This widespread reach underscores the growing recognition of the importance of sustainability in scientific research. By providing practical tools and certifications, Impact Laboratories is enabling labs worldwide to adopt greener practices that align with their scientific goals.

A New Era for Science and Sustainability

The funding round, which totaled nearly $5 million, was led by a consortium of investors, including the Spokane Angel Alliance, Tacoma Venture Fund (TVF), LabX Media, and Greenhouse Capital Partners. This investment not only highlights the potential of Impact Laboratories but also signals a broader shift in how science integrates sustainability into its operations.

In a statement, James Connelly, CEO of both Impact Laboratories and My Green Lab, emphasized the significance of this milestone: “This investment signals a pivotal shift in how science integrates sustainability. We’re proud to be at the forefront of this movement, helping labs around the world become more sustainable while continuing to advance groundbreaking research.”

A Win for Spokane’s Growing Tech Hub

The success of Impact Laboratories is also a testament to the growing tech ecosystem in Spokane, Washington. Tom Simpson, founder and CEO of the Spokane Angel Alliance, expressed pride in the company’s global scaling, stating: “Seeing a company like Impact Laboratories scale globally from Spokane signals a new level of maturity in our startup ecosystem and investment community.”

This sentiment reflects the broader impact of the company’s success, not just on the environment but also on the local economy and the future of scientific research. With its innovative approach to sustainability and its expanding global presence, Impact Laboratories is paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future for laboratories worldwide.
