A Week of Heartwarming and Hilarious Pet Stories
From inspiring rescues to adorable antics, this week’s viral pet stories have captured the hearts of many. Among the highlights is a golden retriever who transformed his life after being saved from the meat trade, and a mysterious dog breed mix that left everyone guessing. These tales remind us of the unique personalities and unbreakable bonds that pets bring into our lives.
At Newsweek, we’ve also been celebrating the furry friends who brighten up our readers’ lives through our weekly Pet of the Week feature. Each week, we gather pictures and videos of your beloved pets, showcasing their quirks, talents, and the joy they bring. If you think your pet deserves to be in the spotlight next week, don’t forget to follow the instructions at the end of this article to submit their story!
Meet Hexaba, the Mischief-Maker Cat: Our Pet of the Week Winner
This week’s Pet of the Week winner is Hexaba, a cat whose personality is as unique as his name. Owned by Ghenrietta Von Bloome, Hexaba is no ordinary feline. By day, he’s your average cat, lounging in the sun and napping. But by night, he transforms into a master of chaos. Whether he’s scratching walls, initiating midnight wrestling matches with his brother Mittens, or causing general mayhem, Hexaba knows how to keep things entertaining.
Despite his mischievous streak, Hexaba has a softer side. He loves to sleep under blankets, snuggle like a human, and carry his toys to bed. “He brings joy and laughter,” Von Bloome shared with Newsweek. Hexaba’s charm is undeniable—he’s a little troublemaker, but he’s also a deeply loved companion. His antics have earned him the title of this week’s Pet of the Week, and it’s clear why he’s such a special member of the family.
Honorable Mentions: The Pets Who Stole Our Hearts
This week’s lineup also features three incredible finalists, each with their own unique story.
First up is Lefty, the dachshund with a knack for surprises. Owned by Cathy, Lefty was a cherished companion known for his love, personality, and unexpected tricks. One day, he surprised Cathy by sitting up on his hind legs—a move she had never taught him. While this turned out to be a natural dachshund behavior, it became Lefty’s signature way of asking for attention, treats, or even just a hug. For 17 years, Lefty brought joy, affection, and countless special moments into Cathy’s life. “I miss him so much,” she shared, “but I feel so lucky to have shared life with him.”
Next is Titus, the Siberian Husky who is more than just a pet—he’s a true savior. Owned by Jennifer Collins, Titus has been her steadfast companion over the past two years, helping her navigate mental health challenges and recover from a brain injury after a car accident. “He has been my little savior,” Collins said. “Without him, I don’t know how I would keep going daily.” Titus’s unwavering love, comfort, and sense of humor have made him an irreplaceable part of her life.
Last but not least is Jasmine, a 10-year-old dog who’s living her best life after being adopted two years ago. Owned by Deedren O’Connor, Jasmine was rescued from a foster mom who worked with the SPCA. While she still experiences occasional PTSD moments, O’Connor and his family have been committed to helping her heal. “We reassure her we are here,” he said. Today, Jasmine is surrounded by love and enjoying every moment of her second chance. Her story is a testament to the power of adoption and the love that pets bring into our lives.
