Asda has set the stage for a retail revolution, announcing the launch of its standalone convenience stores with the opening of two Asda Express outlets in Manchester and Salford on Tuesday, December 5th.

The first store, located within two railway arches on Chapel Street, Salford, will welcome customers at 10 am. Following closely, the second site at the Circle Square development on Oxford Road in Manchester will open its doors at 10 am the next day.

This strategic expansion not only introduces a novel retail experience but also injects vitality into the local job market, creating 41 employment opportunities in the area. Asda Express aims to seamlessly integrate its renowned value propositions into the heart of these communities.

The stores promise a diverse shopping experience, offering customers access to over 3,000 carefully curated products, tailored to cater to various shopping needs and preferences.

The Oxford Road store will focus on a robust food-to-go range, catering to the quick and convenient lunch needs of the bustling student population. In contrast, the Chapel Street outlet will provide a selection of fresh ingredients and pre-prepared meals, meeting the after-work needs of local residents.

Both Asda Express stores are designed as comprehensive grocery hubs, encompassing a wide array of fresh, ambient, and chilled groceries. The product spectrum will further extend to include an extensive selection of beers, wines, and spirits, allowing customers to fulfill all their shopping requirements under one roof. Additionally, the stores will house convenient services such as a Costa Coffee machine, a Krispy Kreme counter, an ATM, and Lotto facilities.

Operating hours have been strategically tailored to accommodate the dynamic lifestyles of patrons. The Chapel Street store will be open from 6 am to 11 pm, seven days a week, while the Oxford Road store will extend its opening hours until midnight from Monday to Sunday.

This move into the convenience sector aligns with Asda’s overarching strategy to solidify its presence as a major player in the UK’s supermarket landscape. The retail giant is set to roll out an ambitious plan, intending to launch an additional 300 standalone Express stores by the culmination of 2026.

A spokesperson from Asda, expressing enthusiasm about this venture, stated, “We’re incredibly excited to be opening our first standalone Asda Express stores in Manchester and Salford in December, and we’re confident the stores will offer customers everything they need at great prices. We’re also delighted to be welcoming new colleagues to the Asda family and thank them for their hard work so far in bringing our convenience vision to life.”

As the countdown to the grand opening commences, the anticipation among local residents is palpable. Asda Express is poised to redefine the convenience shopping experience, delivering not just groceries but an integrated retail solution that mirrors the dynamic and diverse lifestyles of the Manchester and Salford communities.
