Local assessors, driven by a commitment to acknowledging community excellence, thoroughly researched and visited the Framework Knitters Museum before nominating its volunteers. The final seal of approval came from none other than His Majesty the King himself.
For half a century, the dedicated volunteers at the Framework Knitters Museum, in collaboration with other local support groups such as the Ruddington Gardeners and Nature in Mind, have invested their time and energy to rescue a collection of historic buildings from the brink of demolition. Through their collective efforts, these structures have been transformed into a vibrant museum community, not only revealing the intricate stories of the region’s industrial heritage but also actively engaging and inspiring individuals to develop skills in various textile craft activities.
The chair of trustees at the museum expressed gratitude, stating, “The achievement of this award is something that the wider community, but particularly our amazing volunteers, can feel immensely proud of. We appreciate each and every one of our volunteers for their contribution towards making the Framework Knitters Museum what it is today. The museum, supported by approximately 50 volunteers, boasts a team with a wealth of experience, some of whom have devoted over a decade to the cause. Among them is one of the museum’s newest recruits, who embarked on this volunteering journey following retirement.

Without the volunteers, the museum just wouldn’t be able to open its doors – the community, culture, education, and history would be lost.”
