Nottinghamshire Campsite Embarks on Transformation with Bold Expansion Plans

Thornton’s Holt Camping Park, nestled near Radcliffe on Trent, is on the brink of a remarkable makeover as The Camping and Caravanning Club reveals its ambitious expansion plans for the recently acquired site. The 13.5-acre campsite, purchased in November 2023, previously operated as a family-run business since the 1960s and is currently undergoing extensive refurbishments, preparing to re-emerge as the Nottingham Club Site later this year.

The campsite, capable of hosting 175 tents, caravans, and motorhomes, has submitted a detailed planning application to the Rushcliffe Borough Council. The proposal outlines several modifications aimed at enhancing the overall experience for campers and aligning the site with the Club’s stringent standards.

Among the proposed changes is the relocation of the entrance barrier, a strategic move to streamline access for visitors. The plans also include the extension of existing hardstanding pitches to a full standard size, a significant improvement for camper convenience. In a nod to nature, the proposal suggests removing three existing hardstanding pitches, replacing them with lush grass surfacing, and introducing three new hardstanding pitches on the opposite side.

A spokesperson for The Camping and Caravanning Club expressed excitement about the upcoming upgrades, stating, “Following the recent acquisition, we are actively working to ensure the site meets the high standards of our Club Site network, comprising nearly 100 campsites across the UK. Once reopened, the site will boast enhanced services, including upgraded electric supplies to pitches.”

An intriguing aspect of the expansion plans is the provision for a dedicated area for the on-site team. The club aims to create a conducive living environment for its staff, with plans for the team to reside in their caravans or motorhomes on-site. This move underscores the club’s commitment to the well-being of its personnel, outlining plans for dedicated pitches equipped with an access road and fencing.

The spokesperson further articulated, “Ensuring the well-being of our staff is a priority, and we have submitted plans for a number of dedicated pitches, complete with an access road and fencing. We eagerly anticipate welcoming campers back to this popular site soon.”

This transformation aligns with The Camping and Caravanning Club’s vision of providing a premier camping experience across its extensive network of sites. The Nottingham Club Site is poised to emerge as a flagship location, offering upgraded facilities and a harmonious blend of comfort and nature.

Local campers and outdoor enthusiasts have greeted the news with anticipation, eager to explore the enhanced offerings of the Nottingham Club Site. The proposed changes, if approved, promise not only an aesthetic uplift but also an improvement in services, ensuring that the site remains a preferred destination for both seasoned campers and those new to the camping experience.

The expansion plans for the Nottingham Club Site signify more than just a physical transformation; they represent a commitment to fostering a community of outdoor enthusiasts. The creation of dedicated living spaces for on-site staff adds a personal touch, reinforcing the sense of belonging and shared passion for camping.

As the planning application progresses through the regulatory process, the camping community eagerly awaits approval for the proposed changes. Once given the green light, the Nottingham Club Site is poised to open its doors to a new era of camping, inviting nature enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the tranquillity and beauty of Stragglethorpe’s picturesque landscape.

In the heart of Nottinghamshire, Thornton’s Holt Camping Park is on the verge of a renaissance, set to offer a refreshed and revitalized camping experience under the stewardship of The Camping and Caravanning Club. The Nottingham Club Site is positioned to become a shining example of how thoughtful planning and a commitment to excellence can elevate the camping experience to unprecedented heights.
