Dispersal Order Issued in Stockport Amidst Youth Disturbance

Police have implemented a dispersal order in Stockport town centre following a tumultuous incident involving a substantial group of youths at the bus station. Law enforcement made four apprehensions during the disturbance on Saturday night.

The issued Section 35 order grants police additional authority to relocate individuals from the area. Encompassing a significant portion of the town centre, including St Petersgate, Merseyway Shopping Centre, Redrock, adjoining Great Egerton Street and George Street, Grand Central, Stockport Interchange, and Wellington Street, the order remains effective until 7.55 pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

A statement on the Stockport branch of GMP’s Facebook page elucidates: “The dispersal order has been implemented to aid police in addressing concerns regarding the conduct of a small faction of individuals. It provides officers with temporary expanded powers to curtail anti-social behaviour and mitigate disruptions to the public.”

This occurrence marks not the first instance of anti-social behaviour impacting Stockport’s new £135m interchange since its inauguration in March. Detectives recently provided an update on an investigation into an assault at the station, which resulted in a 65-year-old man being critically injured.

Two 14-year-old boys, detained on suspicion of assault related to the incident on the night of April 23, have been subsequently released pending further investigation.

Initially described as critical, the victim’s condition was later revised to ‘serious’. Authorities continue to appeal for witnesses and express particular interest in communicating with a female present at the interchange prior to the attack. A police representative emphasized: “It is crucial to clarify that she is a witness, not a suspect in the investigation.”

The individual in question is characterised as a white female of slender build, approximately 17 years old, with long dark blonde hair tied in a ponytail. She wore a black North Face coat, grey polo neck t-shirt, cream trousers, and black boots.

She boarded bus 313 from Bus Stand S and is urged to promptly contact the authorities.
