In Oxford, residents are being urged to provide input on proposed alterations to the regulations governing the city’s many parks and open spaces.
The suggested changes aim to modernise rules, with a particular emphasis on promoting more active lifestyles among residents. Outdated or overly restrictive byelaws concerning activities like ball games, climbing, and wild swimming are up for review, seen as out of step with current efforts to increase recreational opportunities.
One significant adjustment being considered involves lifting the blanket prohibition on cycling in parks. Instead, the council is considering allowing considerate cycling, drawing inspiration from existing cycling lanes in designated areas such as Cowley Marsh Recreation Ground and Donnington Playing Fields.
