Wrexham is gearing up for a paw-some event next month as Acton Park prepares to host its first-ever fun dog show on Sunday, February 11, from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm. The event promises a delightful day out for the whole family, complete with prizes, stalls, crafts, displays, and more.

The occasion is set to commemorate the triumph of a nearly 500-year-old sweet chestnut tree, which recently clinched the prestigious Tree of the Year award from the Woodland Trust. Locals are encouraged to partake in the festivities, celebrating the community’s connection with nature while enjoying a day filled with canine charm.

To participate in the dog show, entry costs just £1 per category or £3 for four classes, with all proceeds generously donated to Almost Home Dog Rescue—a local charity that has successfully rehomed 1,241 dogs to date.

Class registration kicks off at 11:30 am, and participants can enter classes throughout the day. Judging is slated to commence at 12:15 pm, with the detailed class timetable available on the day and in the programme.

A spokesperson for the event stated, “There are rosettes and prizes up for grabs, with the best in show winner receiving an enduring tribute—a tree planted in the park in honour of their canine companion! It promises to be a delightful experience for both participants and spectators alike. We’re looking forward to seeing plenty of enthusiastic pet parents and hopeful youngsters showcasing their best friends in the show ring. And let’s not forget the much-anticipated reveal of the best in show at 3:45 pm.”

In addition to the dog show, attendees can explore a variety of stalls featuring local vets, groomers, charities, games, dog treats, and even a pet photography opportunity. Award-winning photographers will capture the essence of each pooch, ensuring their best side is showcased for posterity. For those with a rumbling tummy, food and refreshment trucks will be on hand to satisfy cravings.

The event boasts an array of eleven dog show classes, catering to a diverse range of categories:

  1. Most handsome dog
  2. Prettiest female dog
  3. Best rescue
  4. Waggiest tail
  5. Best crossbreed
  6. Golden oldie (7 years+)
  7. Best/biggest ears
  8. Scruffiest dog
  9. Dog and owner most alike
  10. Cutest puppy (6-12 months)
  11. Best ball catcher

While spectators marvel at the diverse breeds and talents on display in the show ring, entertaining displays are also scheduled to captivate audiences of all ages.

Noteworthy rules for participants include a requirement for dogs to be over 6 months old, the judge’s decision being final, and a gentle reminder that this is a fun show with no competition points at stake.

For further details, interested parties can visit the Acton Community Council Facebook event page. As Wrexham anticipates this delightful canine extravaganza, locals are encouraged to come together, appreciate the natural world, and revel in the shared joy of companionship. The Acton Park dog show promises not only a celebration of our four-legged friends but also a heart warming showcase of community spirit.
