The game was announced in the year 2016 and it started its production in 2017, but the development was on halt for some time because Starbreeze Studios was accused of insider trading. Since then, Starbreeze Studios have changed the way they work.
Digital Bros ( the publisher of Payday 2) has also announced that they are trying to acquire all the rights from Starbreeze.
Aside from Payday 2, Starbreeze Studios is also behind the publishing of Overkill’s The Walking Dead. It also went into controversies just after four months of its release. Development problems are very common in the video game industry, even a big developing company can run into controversies because of their content.

According to the Twitter post, the development is being done by using the Unreal Engine, and currently, the game is in the design phase. The post doesn’t give any information regarding the release date.
